The music of the new millennium has been born now, in L.A.'s own back yard. The authors of this remarkable sound are one female, and three male band called the Painkillers and, if you've heard them, you've already been witness to the next big event in rock music's future. Together since the end of '95, the Painkillers have been treating L.A. crowds to a unique brand of musical magic. With each performance new audiences are introduced to, what longtime fans have already come to recognize as, the band's calling card trademarks: Strong, soulful, lead vocals of Cherish Alexander, explosive, driving drumbeats of Billy Baker, high voltage lead guitar from Curtis Hooker and pronounced, riveting bass lines and vocals of Tad Dery, round out their distinctive sound. The band's strong musicianship as well as their showmanship and tight chemistry have set them far apart from their contemporaries. Cherish Alexander started singing and playing piano at the tender age of four. With her natural sense of writing and performing, she was quickly thrown in to an entertainment environment. Expanding her arsenal for writing, Cherish picked up the guitar at the age of 15. In the years to follow the experience of center stage would only benefit her creativity and star quality. Working with such greats as Cyndi Lauper and playing guitar in two of her music videos. In '95 the wheel clicked in place on a drummer, fellow Southern Californian, Billy Baker. A drummer since age eight, Billy had been sharpening his talents in local bands. His encounter with Cherish only helped define their combined vision. The strength of his arranging and songwriting became a pivotal point in the new band's development. Six months later, CurtisHooker stepped in to round out the line-up on guitar. Originally from Indiana, Curtis had been playing the guitar for seventeen years. With his lust for music, he would add a soulful touch with his emotional yet thriving melodies. Coming out of Michigan, Tad Dery came to the Painkillers as a music veteran, playing in many clubs with many successful bands. Tad's riveting bass lines and strong backing vocal bring passion and creative energy to the Painkillers. On-stage the group is spellbinding. Their professional, energetic shows never fail to convert new fans with compelling songs and innovative arrangements. Constant live dates began to draw capacity crowds to Los Angeles clubs, including some major label A&R reps. From the soaring melody of "In Between," a song whose visual lyrics evoke almost tangible emotions; the raw, thumping energy of "Focus"; and the inspirational spirit of "I'm Sorry," the band offers up an impressive range of musical textures and pop styles. Already starting trends in Los Angeles, the Painkillers have conquered the L.A. club scene and have been recently heard on T.V's series "the Crow". With performances at ESPN's X Games, The Troubadour, The Roxy and The House Of Blues to their credit, and having already worked with industry talents Paul Roessler from Black Flagg and producer Geza X, who has worked with The Dead Kennedys and , more recently, Meredith Brooks - the Painkillers are armed and ready for unlimited commercial success. In addition to writing and performing, the band continues to invest countless hours recording in their home studio. Their studio efforts have resulted in an impressive debut CD, "Medicine for the Soul", and plans for a Painkillers music video are already in production. Supported by the strength of their songs and propelled by their relentless talent and technical expertise, the Painkillers are moving swiftly to meet the demands of a changing pop marketplace. Their universal appeal, combined with a well-thought-out commitment to their evolution, will mark them as one of pop's rare, great talents. the Painkillers......they have medicine for the soul, and music for the millennium. |
